The Parkway Running club converged on Lake Winnepesaukee on the weekend of Sept 22-24 for the annual relay race around the lake. This is a 65 mile race broken into 8 different legs of varying distances and varying difficulty; some downhills, but lots of uphilis. This was the 4th year that the PRC has participated in this event. We had 2 teams of 8 runners each.
The weather was perfect for this event, cloudy and cool except during leg 7 when it started to rain. This happened to be the leg that Julie 0' Connor and Beth Delahunty had to run. For Julie this was nothing new she ran a leg of this relay a few years ago also in the rain. Sorry Julie
The relay was capped off with a dramatic race by Chris Sargent (who was running his second leg of the day) and Mike DeMattia up the long, steep hills of Meredith to the finish line, and after 65 miles of running, a mere 93 seconds would separate the two teams. A fun time was had by all, as we supported and cheered on each other during the day.
It took a lot of coordination and teamwork on everyone's part to make it a fun weekend. A thanks goes out to Jini Sweeney for arranging the teams so evenly that we were able to finisb so close to each other, and for planning the logistics so everyone could be together for most of the day. Aiso, thank you to Dorothy and John Govoni for locating the Cliff Lodge, our quaint and cozy accommodations for the weekend, after the Oliver Lodge, a favorite of the PRC was unavailable We all look forward to participating in this event next year
