EAT N' RUN?

EAT N' RUN

Anyone interested in hosting an EAT N' RUN? We are looking for volunteers. An EAT N' RUN is when a club member will host other club members at their home for a brunch after one of our Saturday morning club runs. It's a nice social event that brings club members together.

Eat 'n Run Concord/ Carol & Ian's (June 21, 2003)
Ian and I would like to host an Eat and Run on June 21st at our house in Concord. There are some beautiful runs out here that would be fun for me to share, and Ian is game to make his famous cottage cheese pancakes for us after we run! Meet at the Y at 8:30am and drive out to Concord for a 9:15 AM run

Directions to our house are Take 128 North to Route 2 West. Go through the first light ( Bedford Road) on Rt. 2. At the second light on Rt. 2 you have to turn left to stay on Rt. 2. Go straight through the 3rd light on Rt. 2 ( this is the intersection to 126 and Walden Pond). At the 4th light, take a left onto Sudbury Road. Our house is on the right #970 Sudbury Road. Home phone number is 978 369 4456.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came to the Eat 'N Run after the James Joyce Ramble and donated T-shirts. As usual, there was more eating than running with such a short rest period after the marathon.
The shirts (many bags :) ) were dropped off at Goodwill Memorial last weekend. Be certain that whoever wears them will be grateful to be so dressed in such sportive fashion! Thanks for your generosity and willingness to give up those hard-earned T-shirts.......Cindy

Great Mass Getaway

Hi,
Hope everyone had a nice weekend in spite of another rainy day on Saturday. Two weeks from now on June 21-22, I will be participating in the Great Mass Getaway. This is a 2 day 150 mile bike ride from Quincy to Provincetown to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This ride helps raise needed funds for the MS society to help people afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis. A coworker of mine has MS and I can see how debilitating this disease can be at times and how much help events like this bike rides helps the MS Society raise needed funds to help people like my coworker
I need to raise a minimum of $400 to participate. This is my 4th year doing this event. In previous years, I have participated in this bike ride with other members of the PRC, but this year, I am the only one. If anyone would like to help me in my fundraising, any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated and can either be mailed to me at 55 Greentree Lane, #47, Weymouth Ma 02190, make the check out to the MS Society, or a donation can be made on line at
National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Pledge and it will be credited to my fundraising total
Thank you in advance to any help you can give. It is very much appreciated

Walter

HI, I want to say "Thank you" to everyone in the PRC who helped me in my fundraising for the MS bike ride which I just completed a few hours ago. In spite of the wet and rainy conditions (what else is new? doesn't it always rain on the weekends now?) this bike ride was a big success We started out in Quincy on Saturday and ended in Provincetown early this afternoon. A little bit wet but with a sense of accomplishment on what we did Due to the generosity of friends, family and coworkers I was able to raise a total of $1,210 for the MS Society. This money will help the MS society fund programs to help people who are afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis The PRC is an awesome club. Your generosity in helping me was very nice and very much appreciated. Thanks again Walter

6th Annual West Roxbury YMCA/Boston EMS Triathlon

Please save the date, September 28th, 2003 for the Triathlon.
The PRC has been such a big part of this event since day 1 and we?d love to have you back as particants/volunteers/cheering squad!! More details to come? If you know you can volunteer, please email - Francine Ronan at fronan2000@yahoo.com I think since the event began 6 years ago, several PRC members have gotten the TRI-BUG, it is a great sport and we are glad to keep it going..but need a lot of help, especially with me (Francine) living on Long Island and due for baby #2 Oct 18th. We have a new bike route thanks to many helpers, ESP Cindy Gillan, Jon Connors, Erin Dunne, and John Donnelly. It was a time consuming effort and we are so lucky to have you guys!! The loop will be DOUBLE 4 mile loop. This loop avoids some danger spots and also reduces the number of volunteers. Route has been approved by the Boston Police and Steve Hughes is in the process of bringing the event before the Boston Events Committee for confirmation. Another change to the event to ?speed it up? is the swim. We will have our slow est Swim heat enter the pool at 7:40. The roads are open for bikes at 8:00. This way we?ll have them on the road right about 8:00?Next heat, our speed swimmers and as one comes out of the pool., the next swimmer goes in. No more waiting for a heat to end . We expect this will speed up the event by at least 1 hour. This is helpful for all involved, the participants volunteers and especially the Police Departments. Swimmers will be wearing colored swim caps to help keep track of them (counting laps). We hope these changes will improve our event and make it even more enjoyable for everyone! Please see our web page for applications:

You all should be very proud of your accomplishment. It takes a lot of hard work and some luck to get to the starting line of a marathon and it all pays off when you cross that finish line and get that medal Thanks to everyone in the club who helped with support during the marathon training. It was very much appreciated.

THE 106TH RUNNING OF THE BOSTON MARATHON

--Emil Zatopek

"Running into the sun but I'm running behind."
Jackson Browne

"Always run the tangents."
Mike Jasko

HI, Here are the results of all the PRC members who ran the Boston Marathon. Congratulations to everyone for finishing the marathon under such tough conditions. I know some of you are not happy with your time, but you all should be so proud of your accomplishment.

You had to train during one of the toughest winters in New England history and then on marathon day, it is sunny and warm. Not very favorable conditions to run 26.2 miles, but you all did it and should be proud of that no matter what your time was. Now its time to sit back, relax and reflect on your accomplishment. Hope everyone's recovery goes well If I missed someone's name, please let me know.
Thanks
Walter

Please remember to be courteous to YMCA members when we are meeting for our runs. Many times when we meet before or after a run, we have a large group of very chatty runners! Remember that others are using the Y as well, and avoid blocking the hallway or the ramp leading to the exercise room. The exercise room is more crowded now that there are many new pieces of equipment, so please try not to monopolize the limited area available to stretch.

USATAF MEMBERSHIP

Just a reminder that PRC encourages all runners to start/renew their USA track and Field memberships. Why is this important? For a number of reasons:

(1) Every year, PRC receives a number of waivers for the Boston marathon. These waivers allow runners who have not yet met their qualifying times to "bypass the system" and get an official race number. The number of waivers PRC receives can be related to the # of PRC folks who are active members in USATF. So if you want to run Boston -- or even if you merely want to help out PRC friends who want to run -- your mentership in USATF is really important'

(2) USATF membership is cheap, comes with cool runner benefits (e.g., a local newletter) and is a great way to support the sport we all love....

How do you join USATF? Simple. Goto USATF New England and scroll down to the bottom and click on Membership Benefits. There is a form you can fill out online. Please note, the PRC club # is 176.
