3RD ANNUAl WEST ROXBURY YMCA/BOSTON EMS TRIATHLON

The 3rd West Roxbury YMCA Boston EMS Triathion was a BIG success..

Many thanks to the Parkway Running Club for sponsoring the event and to all of those who helped out and participated. To those who made the trip back from Lake Winnie, I want you to know how much we appreciated the effort. Also, the friends and Family members who came out to help were fantastic! Jon Connor did an AMAZING job on the course managing the bike volunteers and thanks to the future Beth Purcell, for managing the run route volunteers! The race has improved each year and we plan to continue its growth and success each year.

The event raised $2,645.00 for the YMCA Reachout Program, this is almost double of what was raised last year!! A brief summary of the YMCA Reachout Program:

"The YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON is dedicated to KEEPING FAMILIES STRONG. Reachout Funds allow the YMCA to keep the promise that no one is turned away because they cannot afford our services. Gifts to the Reachout Fund support child care and after school programs, youth at risk and youth development programs and summer day camps for all ages."

The PRC members who participated did a fine job!! We are very proud of you!! You are placed...what a fantastic example of PRC Fitness!!

Rob Kerwin 53:31 * 1st place 'TEAM
Brian Savage 1:04:58 * 3rd in age group
Cindy Gillan 1:07:51 * 2nd Female Overall,1st in age group
Maureen Larkin 1:11:50 * 1st in age group
Erin Dunne 1:12:13 * 2nd in age group

The event always has a story, this year it has to be the "lost biker". As the event came to a close, several worried participants said they were concerned because the biker from their team had not returned.. She had been gone about 1.5 hours already (it is only 10 miles). Our EMS guys went out on the course, Jon Connor was out on his bike..the search was on. We were getting nervous after 2 hours and she had not returned. Finally, the Norwood Police called and they had picked up a girl in Norwood who fit our description of the "lost biker". She said she had gone through some town called "Walpole" oh my!! We gave her a gallon of water, some bagels and fruit..she must have been starving!!! She was safe, that was the most important thing and a little embaressed. Where did she make the wrong turn ????? it is a mystery...

Many thanks!!
Francine Ronan

USATAF MEMBERSHIP

Just a reminder that PRC encourages all runners to start/renew their USA track and Field memberships. Why is this important? For a number of reasons:

(1) Every year, PRC receives a number of waivers for the Boston marathon. These waivers allow runners who have not yet met their qualifying times to "bypass the system" and get an official race number. The number of waivers PRC receives can be related to the # of PRC folks who are active members in USATF. So if you want to run Boston -- or even if you merely want to help out PRC friends who want to run -- your mentership in USATF is really important'

(2) USATF membership is cheap, comes with cool runner benefits (e.g., a local newletter) and is a great way to support the sport we all love....

How do you join USATF? Simple. Goto USATF New England and scroll down to the bottom and click on Membership Benefits. There is a form you can fill out online. Piease note, the PRC club # is 176.
