Message from the club President

We are heading into the busy road race season and there are lots of other local races coming up. Some of the good ones to put on your list are, of course, the Corrib Classic 5K in West Roxbury on June 3 at 12 noon; the Framingham 5 miler on June 7 at 7 p.m.; the Bunker Hill 8K Road Race on June 10at 9:30; the Milton 10K on June 12 at 6:30; there is a "New Charles River Run" 7 miler and 5K on June 24; a 5 miler in Dedham and a 5K in Norwood on July 4th;the Marathon Sports 5 miler in Wellesley on July 12 at 7 p.m.; the Sugar Bowl 5 miler in South Boston on July 19 at 6:30; the Blessing of the Fleet 10 miler in Narragansett, R.I. on July 27 at 6:00 p.m.; and the Yankee Homecoming 10 miler and 5K in Newburyport at 6:30 p.m.on July 31. New England Runner, as well as Cool Running have details on these races. Be sure to check with other members if you are thinking of running any of these or other races so we can car pool from the Y or meet up atthe race.

Good luck to all those who are running the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Woodstock, Vermont on June 3, especially to those of you who are running your first half marathon!

THANKS. Thanks again to everyone for their support during the training and running of the Boston marathon. It provided such a tremendous lift to have yourhelp, during the regular training runs, during the course runs from Hopkinton, and of course, on marathon day itself. Having such a large group from the Club involved every step of the way made it a much more enjoyable experience for those of us who ran. The support provided by family and friends is just as much a part of the Boston Marathon experience as running in the race, so thanks for all your help.

Jim Sweeney

HOW TO RECEIVE A PRC BOSTON MARATHON NUMBER

Traditionally PRC has a lottery for Boston Marathon numbers for club members each year. The BAA gives the club 5 invitational applications.
Club names are deawn from a hat. You have an opportunity to have your name in the hat several times.
Each volunteer event puts your name in the hat. Each club member has a name in for membership in the club.

The club has a list of events that members can volunteer for.

1. YMCA Triathlon 2. Diane's Santa Scamper 3. Tufts health Care 10K 4. Chase Corporate Challenge

also by attending 3 of our 6 club meetings

For example, if you volunteer for 2 of the 4 events listed above, and attend 3 meetings your name will go in the hat 4 times (one for membership alone).

USATAF MEMBERSHIP

Just a reminder that PRC encourages all runners to start/renew their USA track and Field memberships. Why is this important? For a number of reasons:

(1) Every year, PRC receives a number of waivers for the Boston marathon. These waivers allow runners who have not yet met their qualifying times to "bypass the system" and get an official race number. The number of waivers PRC receives can be related to the # of PRC folks who are active members in USATF. So if you want to run Boston -- or even if you merely want to help out PRC friends who want to run -- your mentership in USATF is really important'

(2) USATF membership is cheap, comes with cool runner benefits (e.g., a local newletter) and is a great way to support the sport we all love....

How do you join USATF? Simple. Goto USATF New England and scroll down to the bottom and click on Membership Benefits. There is a form you can fill out online. Please note, the PRC club # is 176.
