Congratulations to the following PRC members for thefr recent home purchases
Chris & Judy Sargent, Sarah Hull, Cindy Gillan, Lucinda Didomencio, Keith Shields, Rachel & Terry Mcgregor
Traditionally PRC has a lottery for Boston Marathon numbers for club members each year. The BAA gives our club 5 invitational applications. Club names are pulied from a hat. You have an pportunity to have your name in the hat several times. Each volunteer event puts your name in the hat. Each club member has a name in for membership in the club. The club has a list of events that members can volunteer for
1) YMCA Triathalon,September 24
2) Boston Maraton Jimmy Fund Walk, September 24
3) Diane's Santa Scamper 5k, December 21
4) Tufts Health Care 10k, October 8
5) Chase Corporate Challange, June
For example, if you volunteer for 3 of the 5 events listed above, your name will go into the hat 4 times (one for membership alone).

Enclosed with this newsletter is a club email list and a volunteer application for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. The Jimmy fund Walk is on Sept 24, the same day as the YMCA Triathion, but volunteers are still needed for Sept 23 to help with the pasta party or registration.
Thanks to those of you who have signed up to participate or volunteer already. Plans are coming along well, we still have slots open. Please let me know if you (or anyoneyou know!) can volunteer for the event, we will need volunteers there between 6:00-6:15 AM. Web page has some photos-http:11westroxburytria thion. homestead. corn
Thanks for your help! Any questions please contact Francine at 323-2393.
On September 23, 2000 is the Rodman Ride for Kids. The Ride for Kids is a 25, 50 or 100 mile bicycle tour through beautiftil southeastern Massachusetts. It is a great way to work on your suntan, get some exercise and raise money for thousands of Massachusetts kids at risk. This year the ride is chaired by Celtics Head Coach Rick Pitiano. The Italian Home for Children and other children's charities are gearing up to ride. For more information, please call Leemarie Mosca at 524-3116, ext.349 at The Italian Home for Children.

Thee Hyannis Sprint Triathion is one of the first triathions of the season and with over 800 competitors it is also one of the most popular. It consists of a 1/4 m swi, 10m bike and a 3.5m run. The only drawback is the Swim is an open ocean swim, and with a cool spring and the fact that this triathion is in early June means the water could be cold (brrrrr). The swim is short, only 1/4 mile, but it can be tough due to the waves, which is something you don!t have to contend with while training in a nice calm pool.
The bike course has a few rolling hills but it is a basically flat fast 10 miles through the town of Hyannis.
The run is 3.5 miles. The course is slightly uphill for a mile and then it flattens out for the next 1.5 miles with the last mile being fast due to the downhill, and the finish is back at the beach on the sand.
As for my race, I did well. My bike and run times were fast but my swim time was a bit slow, which it usuafly is. I finished in 1:12:05, which placed me 250 out of 800 finishers, so I am happy with that and looking forward to doing other triathions this summer.
This triathlon was the first of six this year put on by Time Out Productions. They are well managed and organized events with a lot of raffie prizes at the end. I even won a $20 gift certificate to City Sports, so if you are thinking of doing triathion this summer, why no try one of their events. There will be another one at Craigvile Beach in September
Cap-off the summer wlth a bike ride and barbecue at the 7th Annual Don MeCulloch Memorial Ride to Eat.
The course begins with riders traveling through quiant villages and winding along the saltwater shorelines of Falmouth and Woods Hole with panoramic views of Martha's Vineyard, following the Faln~outh road race and Cape Cod Marathon course.
Riders will enjoy more Cape Cod vistas of coastlines and cranberry bogs. The route countinues through the historic towns of Barnstable and Sandwich, finishing along the scenic Cape Cod Canal.
The post-ride buffet includes grilled meats, hot pastas, New Engiand baked beans, salads and desserts.
Riders may choose from the fbllowing routes: Century-100 miles, Metric Century-62 miles, Quarter Century-25 miles

Editors note: If you like to bike and enjoy a scenic course, this event is for you. Cindy, Francine and I did this event 2 years ago and enjoyed ourselves. The post race barbecue is incredible. Lots of food

Well I am glad to report that Pam and I have successfully completed the Burlington Marathon. It was a great day to run weather wise. Pam~had a great run and finished with a time of 4:26 and I finished in 4:27. I can't say it was a great run for me but I finished it and am now officially retiring from marathoning. I have ~n five marathons and have yet to find the charm in it. I have decided to leave marathoning to the people who love them.
My fund raising total was $5400.00. I can not thank people enough for their contributions. If you could have seen how happy Carol (she has scleroderrna) was at the end of the race you would truly understand how much this meant to her.
Mount Washington, NH. - What can you say about this mountain other than "it's relentless"! I have entered the lottery 5 times and this year was my third time running the event in it's 40th year. This year I was better trained than the previous two with an eye on sub 1:20 performance (I'm a time guy). Julie & our boy's dropped me off and headed to Story Land for the second day.
The race began under hot & humid conditions (80-90') which made the first 3.5 miles tougher than ever and the water stops a welcome oasis. The strong scent of balsam pine stayed with us for a few miles but really only helping slightly with the pain and strain that everyone was experiencing.
I stayed on course running with last years winning female (Barbara Remmers) but she was hurting early so I moved on and kept the pace steady with short walking breaks to keep my heart rate from going too high. The miles up to the half-way point seemed to go by reasonably with splits of 8:49, 18:52, 30:45, with the half-way split of 40:45 meaning my sub-1:20 was way out of reach (most humans cannot negative split this course).
At four miles the air-conditioning turned on with moderate gusts swirling around the beautiful scenery despite hazy conditions. I realized more than ever how abrupt the changes in wind and temperature are on the mountain especially without tree coverage. A very tough effort getting to the 5 mile mark in 55:10 in what I have considered the oxygen debt phase of the climb.
Just alter the five mile mark is where they set-up a group of photographers for those keep sake 5x7's or 8x10's and I guarantee they won't be pretty, Last year it was really overwhelming and had taken a long time walking to recover. This year I battled it better until the 6 to 7 mile split where the clouds' fog allowed 50 feet of visibility and labored breathing forced all of my will to get to mile 7. Wind gusts of 50 mph did not seem to make it more difficult but just .6 to go helped return some focus to the goal at hand. Voices, spectators, finishline announcers were carried through the fog with no one in sight. Finally, the last big turn and the final hill to the finish pushing hard and unable to run all of the last 22% grade I crested the hill with the foggy finish in sight and was amazed to see the clock hit 1:30:30 when I crossed (the exact time of 1999).
Always happy to finish this thing I rested for 1 hour and began walking down 2.6 miles where I connected with my carpooling pals which was a welcome sight in the heavy downpour of rain. I can't wait to race again and train harder for next year if I get in. Very nice finishers medals to all to celebrate the "40th Race to the Clouds"!
My third annual MS 150 and I enjoy the bike tour more each year! I am hoping some folks consider the ride for 2001
This is a well organized event that included almost 1200 cyclists riding from Boston to Provincetown. This year the PARKWAY RIDERS were myself, Tom Purcell, Beth Delahunty, Walter Burgess and Joe Connors. (my father). We all had an spectacular ride.
On this ride there are no worries about your luggage because it is transported for you. There are snacks and beverages provided along the way at the checkpoints.
We bunked at Mass. Maritime Academy in Wareham on Saturday night. Our ride on Sunday started very early and our day was mixed with a coastal ride and a awesome boat ride back to Boston. Consider the PARKWAY TEAM next June 2001.
REMINDER: When Filling out a race application, remember to put Parkway Running club where it says Team/club affliation, also our USA Track & Field # is 176
